Microsoft Orleans - The Easy Way

Writing distributed systems is hard - and Microsoft Orleans has been making that easy for many years now. But how difficult is it to get started with Orleans and to actually stand up a system in the real world? Ask me! I build such a system for a program-critical requirement at Microsoft Quantum! With the advancements in Microsoft Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and .NET Core, there are a large number of moving parts to get a cluster set up and running with your Orleans application. In this talk, I talk about how we addressed each of these issues. We made it so simple that we will show you how you can get your next Orleans project up and running in (almost) no time - so you can focus on designing your application instead of mumbling cluster-management incantantions to Azure. Even if you don't use Orleans, this talk will give you practical and useful information on the entire gamut of developing a distributed system - from writing a distributed app, containerizing it, running it on AKS virtual nodes, and CI/CD. John has been building cloud systems on Azure from 2010, and Orleans applications since 2014. This is a practical talk with a lot of strong opinions and guidance that is given from the perspective of an active Orleans user. And you get to keep the code that we wrote!
