Bringing Silicon Valley Thinking to Australian Agriculture

When I left Lightbend three years ago, I did so with the aspiration to work in the meaningful fields of agriculture and/or energy. Part of this was wanting to do something my family could understand! However, the main driver was the recognition that a disproportionate amount of programming talent on the planet appeared to focus away from agriculture in particular. What is it with agriculture that it is not able to attract more talent? As a programmer, I know that technology is important to me. Could it be that the agriculture technology domain is technically boring? Well, it is definitely not boring!
In this talk, I describe how applying contemporary thinking to software architecture, namely that of reactive systems, can be applied to agriculture. The talk is about my journey and co-founding a company that now has farming customers benefiting from the resilience that Reactive systems afford.
